1. (15 pts) Your Lab Instructor will assign one of the following topics. Links to the topics are available under “Lab Assignments”. Not all topics will have a link please also use your Textbook and other Internet Sources. Students should use the projector in their brief discussion of their topic.

  1. Explain and discuss the role of the three macromolecules (fat, carbohydrates, protein) in the body, also include their function and source.
  2. Explain and discuss the three basic body types and how it is related to metabolism.

    2. Mesomorph
    3. Ectomorph
  3. Explain and discuss Calorie Requirements for College Students, they should explain Table 3 and Table 1 from the link listed on the Lab Assignments Page.

4. What are the Dietary Guidelines for Carbs, Fats and Proteins? Include the Revised Food Pyramid.

  1. Explain and discuss to how to correctly read a Food Label.
  2. Explain and discuss BMI, how it measured, demonstration of websites and problems associated with BMI.
  3. Demonstrate a Daily Caloric Intake Calculator. Include how exercise influences your daily amount of calories.
  4. Explain and discuss how dieting works. Include at least three examples of different types of popular diets and problems associated with each.
  5. Develop a realistic eating plan for College Students living in the dorm and a plan for students living in an apartment. Include foods that should be selected from the different food groups.
  6. Explain and discuss the three types of Diabetes and how is lifestyle related to Type 2 Diabetes. Include treatment options for each type.
  7. Explain and discuss the role of Insulin and Glucagon on blood glucose levels. Give the function of each of the hormones and where it is produced in the body.
  8. Explain and discuss what vegetarians have to do in order to balance their daily protein requirement (complete proteins). Provide and example of a typical diet and why it is more energy efficient to be a vegetarian.
